Get The Job

How would one ‘sell’ someone else to companies to help them get a job?
Here’s the thing, my partner just graduated from college with a degree in Graphic Design and Photography and now like most graduates is Looking For A Job. I won’t graduate from university until December and currently have a paying summer internship in Washington D.C (which I have been invited back to for the third time). He is back at home, where our college is and is sending his resume and looking for work down there. I figure since I’m in a major metropolitan area, I could probably help him out and take his portfolio/res to agencies that are in his field up here.
Problem is, I have no idea how to ‘sell’ someone ELSE. If I were in his shoes, it’d be no problem for me to go to companies, ask to speak to someone in charge or connected to said person and at least inquire to whether or not they are accepting resumes. So basically I’m trying to figure out a professional way of going about this, so that we’ll both be taken seriously.
Any tips/advice?
First of all, you are a loyal and trustworthy compadre. The world could use more friends like you. Second, sell your friend as if he is you. Pretend that you are doing this for yourself. Third, keep in touch with your friend. Tell him all his good qualities, and why the world needs his skills, and throw him a moral support lifeline.
You may be also able to invite your friend to crash on your couch or floor for a few days or even more, to look in your area. Have him kick in a few dollars if he is able for some food and basics. If he is broke at the time, which would be completely understandable, if you can afford to, do him a favor, and he will more than likely repay you in the future.
Network with co-workers. Talk to the people at the company in which you are interning, and ask the human resource people for any advice, and or help for your friend. You know your friend more than you are aware of. If he is a close friend, he is someone that you allready know enough about in order to sell his skills to others.
Sell him as if he is you. Do what you think which would you would do for yourself. Not only will you be doing your friend a humongous solid, you will be gaining great experience in the job hunting department for your future. Believe me, this is a priceless ability to learn and to keep honed. You will also be gaining great skills in other areas of life also. Skills such as finding info, sales experience, organizational skills, skills of helping others, the list goes on.
Keep in touch with your friend. Knowing that you are in his corner can literally make the difference between your friend staying in bed out of depression and getting up with motivation to knock on another door. Let him know that he is not alone, and that he will do fine.
You are a good person, keep up the good work.
