Cities for Best Opportunities (and cost of living)?

I live in Oregon and the unemployment here is insane. I love Oregon and desperately want to stay, but I can’t find work for the life of me (and I have two college degrees). I’ve even tried Portland (the biggest city) and still can’t find work!

From anyone in the U.S, what city do you champion? I’ll go anywhere at this point. I heard TX and AZ are pretty good. I think I can easily score a job in Seattle, but the cost of living is insane. What cities provide opportunities and a reasonable cost of living?

Chicago is a good city, and yes the cost of living in the city is more expensive, but there are suburbs around the city that are reasonable. Suburbs like: Oak Lawn, Alsip, Tinley Park, Oak Forest. You can even work in Chicago and live in Northwest Indiana. Lots of people do that and it is WAY cheaper in Indiana. Towns like Munster, Hammond and Highland are good places to live in Indiana. All these areas have public transportation right into downtown Chicago.
