Best Jobs In Los Angeles

Where to Find Available Jobs in Los Angeles by Robert David Fraser
There are many people currently searching for work in Los Angeles. As of July 2011, the unemployment rate was 12.4%. It is also truly an employers market out there and the likelihood of finding a good job without knowing where to look is really slim. I’m going to list a few places on where to find available jobs in Los Angeles, CA.
Did you know that employers will, as a last resort, post job offers online? Online is the first place about 80% of people go when searching for work but that should not be the first place you look. You can potentially find good jobs out there on Craigslist or Monster Jobs but, in order to quickly find decent work you need to look in multiple places.
The first place where I recommend going to find available jobs in Los Angeles is your own personal network online and offline. Most employers want to hire someone they know, are familiar with, or that somebody credible knows and are familiar with. Your personal network is probably the best tool you have and you never know what you can uncover when talking with friends, family members, previous workmates, and etc.
The second place where I recommend looking are at particular companies which may be of interest of you. Most employers hire and promote from within. If you have your sights set on a particular company and if you know somebody that works there (personal networking) or if you can get your foot in the door, then take any job within that company and work your way up.
The third place where I recommend going to find available jobs in Los Angeles are job fairs for obvious reasons. The competition here is fierce and you will need to bring your ‘A game.’ Make sure you dress the part, have 20-30 copies of your resume available, and have your ‘elevator pitch’ perfected. Most job fairs are extremely packed and can be somewhat noisy and you will need to stand out a bit and be memorable to a certain degree.
The fourth place what I recommend looking are placement or ‘temp’ agencies. Most employers will go to temp agencies for finding talent when other means are exhausted. Temp agencies may not offer the best pay or incentives, but they will give you a chance to been seen and given a trial run. The company you go to work for temporarily may like you and decide to bring you one full time.
The fifth and last place I recommend going to find available jobs in Los Angeles is online. There are many classified ads site such as Craigslist and Monster Jobs. Most employers, as a last resort, will place an ad on the internet for a position, but most people usually go to the internet first when looking for work.
When looking for work, the best advice I could give you is to think like an employer. If you wanted to hire someone would you go to the internet, or would you ask colleagues and fellow co-workers if they know anyone suitable? Utilizing these five places will give you greater success in finding your next job.
